“Green WALK with Leaders”

World Green Organisation (WGO) is advocating for a low carbon lifestyle by reducing the usage of vehicles for short distances. Walking not only cultivates a healthier lifestyle but also helps reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change. Following the mid-September press conference held to announce the launch of our “Green WALK with leaders” brought together government officials, celebrities and business leaders to demonstrate their commitment to reduce carbon emissions in Hong Kong. Dr. William Yu, CEO of WGO led —

  1. Professor Sophia Chan, Under Secretary of the Food and Health Bureau
  2. Professor Peter Mathieson, President of the University of Hong Kong
  3. Ming Gor, owner of Pei Ho Cha Chaan Teng in Sham Shui Po

And other prominent representatives from the food industry in Hong Kong in a green walk around Central today.

Under Secretary of the Food and Health Bureau, Professor Chan expressed,

Sometimes it is difficult to dedicate one or two hours to exercise. I would try to walk between Admiralty and Central in order to be healthy and environmentally friendly by reducing carbon emissions.

CEO of WGO also said,

Although the air quality of Hong Kong has improved, it is still far below the World Health Organisation’s standards. Through this campaign, we hope to encourage people to walk more, be physically and mentally healthier, and reduce carbon emissions. Today, distinguished guests met at Pottinger Street and walked to Statue Square in support environmental aid. Along the way, they were able to take their time and enjoy historical and cultural attractions that are unique to Hong Kong such as the stone slab streets of Pottinger Street, Shoe shiners in Theatre Lane, and the Statue of Sir Thomas Jackson at Statue Square. Walking really has endless benefits!

WGO is also have a “Green WALK Hong Kong 2016” day on November 5th as part of our “Green WALK” campaign. The general public can find “Green WALK” checkpoints through our map of Hong Kong by downloading the “Green WALK HK” app in free, join us and explore the vast array of historical and cultural sites that Hong Kong has to offer. The phone app also records the number of steps taken, the amount of calories burned, and also the sum of carbon emissions reduced. Through this event, we hope to inform the public the benefits of walking and the importance of reducing carbon emissions, and challenge Hong Kong people to slow down and enjoy the world around us.
