{"id":2781,"date":"2014-02-07T05:35:35","date_gmt":"2014-02-07T05:35:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thewgo.org\/site-eng\/?page_id=2781"},"modified":"2019-03-19T03:02:59","modified_gmt":"2019-03-19T03:02:59","slug":"green-office-why-join","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/thewgo.org\/site-eng\/green-office-why-join\/","title":{"rendered":"<span style=\"color:#006325\">Why should companies join?<\/span>"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><div class=\"ezcol ezcol-two-third\">GOALS provides a great opportunity to supports Hong Kong\u2019s drive towards a low carbon city by building a platform to bring together the key change different sectors including business corporations, social service organisations, professional associations and university students \u2013 to share experience and accelerate positive changes in office and retail environments through the execution of best practices.<\/p>\n<p>Our green office programme \u201cGreen Office Awards Labelling Scheme\u201d (GOALS) is now recognised by the Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence (HKAEE) and Hong Kong Green Organisation (HKGO) and details are as follows:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Awardees of the HKAEE and HKGO recognition will be recognised as having fulfilled 5 Green Office Best Practice Criteria under the scheme.<\/li>\n<li>Awardees of the Wastewi$e Certificate, Energywi$e Certificate, IAQwi$e Certificate, Productwi$e Certificate and Carbon Reduction Certificate will be recognised as having fulfilled 2 Green Office Best Practice Criteria.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/thewgo.org\/linked\/goals\/hkaee.jpg\" width=\"650\" height=\"220\" \/><\/p>\n<p>About 400 companies\u2019 offices have joined GOALS in 2013 \u2013 2018, including multi-national and listed companies. They got a lot of benefit from:<\/p>\n<h1 style=\"color: #87c33d;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/thewgo.org\/linked\/goals\/1.jpg\" width=\"100\" height=\"100\" \/> Enhancement of corporate image<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li>Once having met the minimum criteria, qualified companies will be awarded with WGO\u2019s \u201cGreen Office\u201d label. They are also granted the usage rights of both labels on an annual basis with which they can apply on all their corporate and promotional materials, as a recognition and honour of the company\u2019s significant efforts to execute green practises and commitment to create a sustainable world.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Besides, participants will be invited to attend the grand award ceremony, participants\u2019 company logos will be included in WGO\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/thewgo.org\/site-eng\/green-office-case-sharing\/\">newspaper advertisements<\/a>, and they have the chance of receiving <a href=\"http:\/\/thewgo.org\/site-eng\/green-office-case-sharing\/\">media coverage<\/a>. Not only does GOALS help to promote green culture, but it can also help to reduce a company&#8217;s operation costs in the long run. Below are some examples from GOALS\u2019s participants:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A company replaced all their T8 fluorescent lights with T5 lights, which reduced the energy consumption by 40%. Their energy bills were also greatly reduced and the payback period was only 10 months.<\/li>\n<li>A company installed a high efficiency electric hand dryer to replace paper towels in the bathrooms. Such action saved over 20,000 pieces of paper towel every month, reduced the spending on office supplies as well as saved the precious natural resources of the earth.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a As part of the scheme, quality training will be provided not only to applicants, but also university students. Some 200 university students will be given tailor-made training in green office best practices, audit skills, behavioural change education, communication, presentation and reporting skills. Trained students will become \u201cGreen auditors\u201d, who will carry out the green audit for applicants and prepare assessment reports.
