53.2% of survey respondents support landfills extension
69.3% support incinerator

World Green Organisation (WGO) commissioned the Statistical Consulting Unit of the Department of Management Sciences of City University Hong Kong to conduct a public poll on the degree of support towards landfills and incineration. 

Over half of the interviewees support the extension in three landfills and the construction of the incinerator in Shek Kwu Chau. We found that only small number of interviewee knows that the landfill will be full around 2015. However, construction of incinerator takes about 8 years.

Tseung Kwan O Landfill is expected to be full in 2015. The extension plan is a great urgency.

The survey shows that the general public does not aware the urgency of the waste issue. WGO believes that more people will support the incinerator and landfill extension if the Government enhances the public knowledge on the waste issue.
