Recently, the Hong Kong government has failed to obtain funding for its landfill extension proposals. With three of Hong Kong’s strategic landfills expected to reach maximum capacity by 2019, waste management in Hong Kong has become a huge challenge and concern for policy makers and citizens.

The Scheme, which lasts for 60 days, aims to promote a food waste recycling culture in the area by providing recycling services to 200 participating households. With proper processing, food waste can be made into fish food – a creative solution to the imminent waste management dilemma in Hong Kong. In July 27 2013, WGO organised workshops in Oscar By The Sea (清水灣半島), a private estate in Hang Hau to educate citizens on waste reduction and energy efficiency in households.
