“Love x Creativity” exhibited again at the Social Innovation Inventor – Competition for Innovative Design Award Ceremony

Analysts suggested that the lack of innovation and the wealth gap could soon become the two major factors hindering Hong Kong’s sustainable development. World Green Organisation (WGO) believes that innovation is the way to tackle social issues, thus came the “Social Innovation Inventor – Competition for Innovative Design”, aiming at igniting Hong Kong students’ creativity to come up with practical and energy-saving household designs for grassroots families. Very widely received, the competition received 108 team entries and 92 pieces of designs in the preliminary round, with winners elected in late May. The prize presentation ceremony was held on July 11 at the Ma On Shan Plaza.

The prizes were presented by the former Director of the Hong Kong Observatory, Professor Lam Chiu Ying, the Executive Vice President of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Mr Nicholas W. Yang and the CEO of WGO, Dr William Yu. Dr Yu remarked highly on the quality of the design layouts and models, who went on saying that through the competition, students were able to elevate the households’ energy efficiency, lighting effects and ventilation condition through space planning, lighting design, utilization of environmentally friendly materials and furniture arrangements. The designs were also expressed vividly through display models. Yu believed if the designs can be applied practically to the grassroots’ households, it will greatly enhance their living conditions. Not only had the participating students unleashed their creative potential, but they had also visited the underprivileged families and cared for the well beings of others, hence attended a real-life social studies lesson.
